Staircase to the Moon

Along the road to Onslow we saw three really big willy willys picking up red dirt and flying around. We also saw masses of flocks of hundreds of green budgerigars. They looked like green clouds zooming everywhere across the sky.
You can just see the Willy Willys in this photo
The termite mounds look different here as well because they have chimneys on them. They are made by Spinifex termites.

We camped at the site of old Onslow town by the Ashburton River.

The view of the Ashburton River from our camp spot.  It was very misty one morning!
It was a great spot and I caught a Silver Cobbler fish that weighed about 2 kg. It was delicious to eat!
At the Old Onslow site we had a look at the remains  of the old police station and jail.  There was broken pieces of glass on the top of the wall to stop the prisoners from escaping.

Inside one of the jail cells.  There is a big iron ring in the middle of the floor to chain the prisoner to.
All the wildflowers are beginning to show.  This is the green bird flower which looks like a bird when the flower is side on.
We left Old Onslow and drove to thee new town of Onslow to see the Staircase to the Moon which only happens when it is a full moon and it is low tide over the mud flats which was happening on the 1st August. When the moon starts to come up over the horizon it shines down across the mud flats and looks like stairs going up to the moon. It is a very special sight!
Yesterday I went walking on sunset Beach where there were piles of shells right along the beach. I collected some really special shells. One of my shells looks like it has a black button pearl in it.  I was really sad to see a dead green turtle on the beach!
Today we are on our way to Exmouth to do something REALLY SPECIAL which I will tell you about in my next blog.  CAN'T WAIT!
