We have been travelling down the North West Coastal Highway
and on our way to Karratha we stopped for the night at the Whim Creek
Hotel. On our way there we saw a huge
brown goanna crossing the road and several brolgas out on the spinifex grass
plains.
At the hotel there were two pet corellas. Their names were Harry and Harriet. Both of the birds could talk. Harry said “hello Harriet” and Harriet said
“hello Harry”. They were really tame and
you could tickle them which they loved.

The next day we drove to a small historic town called Cossack. There was an old stone store, Court House and
old houses We also saw the old school
house which had one room. A tram line
ran around the town and a horse drawn tram took the school children to the nearby town
of Roebourne when a cyclone destroyed their school building. A 10 year old girl that went to the school
died when she trod on a rusty nail and got tetanus which is a disease. We saw her grave in the cemetary near Settlers
Beach. There were also lots of other
graves of young people and families that drowned after ships sank.

Finally I'm back in school |
After lunch we drove to Karratha and on our way to Dampier
we went to an Aboriginal art site in a rocky gorge. The gorge was heaps and heaps of huge piles of rocks. On the rocks there were hundreds of
Aboriginal art engravings of mimmi spirits, animals, jelly fish bird
footprints and first settlers. They were
over 30 000 years old. This place has the most ancient rock art in the world!

Later we went to the Visitor Centre near Dampier and saw the
North West Gas Shelf where the gas comes from 134 km off the coast of Western
Australia to the massive gas plant.
We are now on our way to Onslow to see the Staircase to the
Moon on the 1st August. I
will tell you more about this next time.
See you later.
