Hi guys, I
am finally back with more news and photos.
On the 11 May we
went to the Eungella National Park on our motor scooters. We rode up a really
steep and winding mountain road to get there.
After lunch
we went on a short rainforest walk and saw little brown birds called finches and
we saw a bush turkey in the scrub. It was really cool walking through the
rainforest and there were huge trees with massive buttress roots to hold them
onto the ground. There were also
strangler vines growing around and up the trees. I could hear birds calling.
When we
finished the walk we had another walk along
Crediton Creek and were lucky to see a baby platypus swimming and diving. It was really fast at swimming. There were also lots of turtles in the creek.
After the
walks we went to a cafe and I had a chocolate frappe and it was so creamy and
yummy. From the café we saw an unreal
view right down over the valley, villages and crops of sugarcane. There was also a take off ramp for hang
gliders to take off from.
On the 12 May we left
Gargett and travelled east to Mackay and from there we travelled north to Bowen
Visitor Centre where I had my photo taken with a huge mango sculpture and I had
a cookies and cream icecream…YUM!
From Bowen
we travelled north west to Home Hill for our next camp spot. Home Hill is a nice spot luckily alongside
the railway line.
Today we
rode 8km south to Charlie’s Hill. On the
top of the hill there are two cement bunkers which were built during World War
II and designed to detect approaching enemy planes and alert neighbouring radar
stations. They were built of cement so
that the enemy’s bombs would not damage them.
From
Charlie’s Hill we rode to Mt Inkerman to get really good view of the
countryside and surrounding ocean. I saw
a cruise ship. I went really fast with
Pop down the steep mountain road.
My really
exciting news is that a cyclone might be crossing the coast around Townsville
which is very close to here. I will keep
you updated.
Till next
time
Auf Wiedersehen
