We left Charters Towers on Monday and travelled west again
on our way to Richmond. We stopped at
Prairie and saw a massive windmill used to pump bore water from below the
earth.
I had my photo taken at the
Kooroorinya Signpost.
Where should I go?
The country here
is really dry and there is a big drought because they need rain.
When we came into the town of Richmond we stopped at
Kronosaurus Korner where a Kronosaurus queenslandicus tried to eat me!
Because it was late in the afternoon we decided
to go to the Kronosaurus Korner Museum the next day.
The next day we saw some amazing fossils of “Penny” the
Richmond Plesiosaur which is the world’s most complete marine fossil, “Krono”
Kronosaurus queenslandicus a 10 metre giant marine reptile, and “Mia” Minmi
which is Australia’s best preserved dinosaur.

All these fossils were found in the Richmond area and Richmond is one of
three towns that you can go to on the dinosaur trail. Millions of years ago Richmond was an inland
sea and that is why there are so many marine fossils here.
After we had been to the museum we went on our scooters out
to a fossil digging site with a palaeontologist to search for fossils. It was really cool and I found fossils of Belemnite
which is a squid, fish scales, shells, fish teeth and bones and Nan found
fossilised poo :) I now have FOSSIL
FEVER!
Digging is hard work!
Today we went to the bush tucker garden and saw lots of
native Australian plants used for medicines and eating. I found it interesting. We also went back to the fossil digging site
and I found some more fossils. Just
before dark we went and had a barbecue at Lake Fred Tritton. There were heaps of fish in the lake. I wish I had my fishing rod with me.
Tomorrow we are leaving Richmond and off to Julia
Creek. I will miss digging for fossil
treasures.
Till next time
Adios amigos
