To Broome or not!

We have been travelling through the Kimberley Ranges.  They are spectacular.  There are really huge mountains with caves in them and really wide mountains with flat tops called mesas.  I also saw mountains with jagged rocks on top that looked like they were going to fall down.  These were called the pinnacles.  There are huge cattle stations out here too that are hundreds of kilometres in size.

We stopped at Fitzroy Crossing and rode our scooters into Geikie Gorge.  The Geikie Gorge is carved by the Fitzroy River.  Geikie Gorge is an ancient limestone reef because that area used to be under the sea millions of years ago.  The tour guide told us that there were dinosaur fossils everywhere in the rock.  It was really interesting.
The limestone cliffs of Geike Gorge containing thousands of fossils.

The white area of the cliffs is where the water comes up to in the wet season

In the gorge I found someone with a big nose

I was really excited to see and take photos of bigger freshwater crocodiles which were on the banks.  There were also juvenile crocodiles. I learned that only one out of 100 freshwater crocodiles in the wild survives to be an adult.  I also learned that if crocodile eggs are kept warm at 32 degrees constantly the crocodiles will be male and if the temperature varies the crocodiles hatch out females.  Freshwater crocodiles normally don’t hurt people as they are very timid but just after we had left Wangi Falls in the Litchfield National Park in the Northern Territory a female European tourist was bitten by a freshwater crocodile because she tried to grab it to take a selfie with it.  How stupid was she!

On the banks of the river I saw little kangaroos.
It was really peaceful and cool cruising through the gorge.
On the way back from the gorge Pop and I saw brolgas dancing out on the grassy plains.
Today Pop was right we have finally made it to Broome.  Pop showed me how he did his maths to make sure we would make it.  Tomorrow we are riding our scooters into Broome and checking out what there is to see and do here.
