Lawrence the Rooster!

I have to say that the fireworks on Territory Day were the best fun ever!  My favourite firework was the Peacekeepers which was a rocket that shot up in the sky and released heaps of army parachutes that fired off little coloured missiles and it also shot out little balls of colour that went BANG!  My bee stings were shaped like bees and when you lit them they took off into the air.  The Jumping Jacks jumped across the road in a shower of sparks.  The darts whistled.  Some friends of mine lit up a UFO firework and it spun around on the ground and took off into space.  Around 8.00pm we also saw the NASA International Space Station go across the sky on its journey in space.

Today we went south to Katherine to go to Katherine Gorge.  On our way to Katherine we stopped to camp at a place where a rooster was supposed to be.  When I sat down with Pop and Nan I saw Lawrence the rooster.  Lawrence is a brightly coloured small bantam feather-foot rooster. When I came close to him he did a little shuffle. I was really sneaky and when I patted him I quickly picked him up but he didn’t like that much!  Lawrence crowed all night and kept lots of campers awake.  Someone said that Lawrence would make nice soup!  I liked Lawrence he was really funny.

When we were travelling to Katherine Gorge we found a really great camp spot that had a nice view over the valley.

A strange sculpture at our camp spot.  It had prayer flags on it.

The next day we went to Katherine Gorge in Nitmuluk National Park.

We went to the visitor information centre to see their display and see a slide show on the gorge. We also got information on bushwalks in the park.

After the information centre we went on the Baruwei Walk to a lookout over the first gorge.  Katherine Gorge has a total of 13 gorges.  The walk was really rocky and steep. When we got to the top we walked on a platform and saw a tour boat and people in canoes going up the gorge and it was cool!  The water in the gorge was really nice blue.  We walked for about 6 km through rocky sandstone gorges.

There is a yellow canoe going down the gorge
After our walk we went back on our scooters to our camp spot.
Can you see what I saw on my way back from the walk?

Today we went on another bushwalk to Pat’s Lookout.
The National Park people must have known I was coming!

When we were going to the walk I saw a kangaroo on the grass in the park.  We walked about 8km and saw lots of trees and funny rock shapes.

After a long time walking over rocky paths we finally got to the lookout! The view was really nice and the water was really sparkly and I saw a salt water crocodile on the bank of the gorge.

Tour boat going down the second gorge

More people in canoes
On our way back we met a man who was walking on the sharp rocks with bare feet and playing a guitar and singing.  We did not expect to see this in the bush!  Pop said that he must have feet made of steel!  I really enjoyed today!
Till next time
See you
